What is a Safe Isolation Provider? The lowdown...
Who can install an isolator switch?
Since June 2023, only registered Safe Isolation Providers (SIPs) can legally carry out safe isolation works, which includes the installation of isolator switches and the de-energisation and re-energisation of the meter point to allow for safe working on a customer’s electrical equipment. It’s important to note that only Meter Equipment Managers (MEMs) accredited by the Retail Energy Code can legally serve as a registered SIP.
DCP 394: what it means for you
New DCP 394 regulation means that any party wishing to undertake isolation works can now contract independently with any accredited Meter Equipment Manager (MEM) registered as a SIP, rather than having to use the MEM appointed by the end-consumer’s energy supplier (as was the case prior to DCP 394). This provides greater convenience for local authorities and landlords who require works across their estate, but whose tenants are typically supplied by multiple different utility providers.
